DIVISION OVERVIEW
The Redford Center is the newest of the Sundance Entitites. It is a non-profit whose mission is to inspire positive social change through the arts, education, and civil discourse. The Redford Center brings together artists, prominent leaders, thinkers, and policy makers in a variety of programs to create solutions for a more sustainable future. The Center is headquartered in Berkeley with programmatic offerings in the San Francisco Bay Area and the Sundance Resort in Utah. The Redford Center is the steward of the Sundance Preserve.
SUMMARY
From its inception, Sundance has sought and cherished the balance of art, nature and recreation. The Sundance Preserve represents one of those three essential pillars. A 501(c) (3) non-profit organization, the Sundance Preserve is a 3000-acre haven for discovery and conservation—home to a diverse ecosystem with truly wild life, breathtaking scenery, and a unique community of individuals dedicated to perpetuating the character of the area.
As an integral part of the Sundance Preserve, the Sundance Nature Center offers opportunities to experience, understand, and appreciate the natural splendor of the area by guiding affordable programs and classes.
The Sundance Kids Camp is a nature-themed day camp that runs from early June to mid-August. Counselors lead an assigned group of day campers (ages 5-12) in scheduled activities: hiking, painting, games, wildlife observation, fishing, environmental education and other activities as outlined in daily itinerary.
The Kid’s Camp Director is responsible for program development, budget management, and execution of the Kid’s Camp program with cooperation with the Sundance Resort. The Kid’s Camp Director is the summer ambassador for the Sundance Preserve to guests at Sundance Resort and a vital part of the guest experience and may be called to educate guests and community members in environmental issues and ecological facts to raise awareness of our individual and collective environmental impact.
| | Duties: | ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Develop and Coordinate the Sundance Summer Kids Camp
o Develop budget for program based on last year’s actuals
o Create programming calendar consistent with Sundance principles
o Market and sell camp slots
o Utilize camp as a marketing tool for other Nature Center programs—the Nature Center Manager is the face of Sundance to many parents and children, and may influence their decision to visit Sundance in the future.
o Manage camp staff and oversee most aspects of day-to-day camp operations
o Responsible for training counselors.
o Assign campers to counselors.
o Instruct and guide groups and individual campers to successfully participate in designated activity.
o Use humor and patience in teaching to bring out the best in participants.
o Enforce camp safety regulations, including distribution of necessary safety equipment in appropriate sizes.
o Develop and carry out lesson plans for different age groups and skill levels.
o Instruct counselors and campers in emergency procedures.
o Maintain equipment in good working order.
o Supervise counselors and campers participating in activity at all times.
o Provide opportunities for discussion of individual or group problems or concerns.
o Ability to fulfill all responsibilities of camp counselor job description.
• Promote and implement school outreach and field trip programs as directed
• Be available to Resort guests & departments, homeowners and the general Utah community for environmental consultation and training
• Oversee volunteers and any volunteer projects
• Promote membership of the Sundance Preserve to guests
• Assist Preserve and Redford Center as needed
• Create, promote, and guide environmental education programs as needed. These programs include, but are not limited to:
o Guided hikes
o Skiing ecology tours
o Wildlife observation tours
o Nature photography instruction
o Lectures
o Film screenings
o General guest inquiries
ALL SUNDANCE REPRESENTATIVES ARE EXPECTED TO:
The Kid’s Camp Director is the only Redford Center employee located full time at the Sundance Resort. As such, it is imperative that the Kid’s Camp Director adheres to the same standards and guidelines of employment as Sundance Resort employees in addition to the standards set by the Redford Center.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, scheduling, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Complete all applicable paperwork for the above responsibilities and submit in a timely manner.
Kid’s Camp Director is also responsible for handling volunteer requests. Volunteers must also be trained to ensure they properly represent Sundance.
ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT
Support and participate in environmental programs associated with position: minimizing waste, recycling, energy conservation, purchase and use of sustainable products, education on environmental ethic, support vendors with similar ethic, decrease pollution levels, minimize the use of toxic chemicals, restore wild life habitats.
A significant part of the Kid’s Camp Director’s job is to educate guests and community members in environmental issues and ecological facts. Much of the job is devoted to ensuring the area has the smallest possible environmental impact.
The Sundance Preserve is central to Sundance’s environmental commitment. The Kid’s Camp Director often liaises with the Resort to implement environmental initiatives.
DRESS CODE
Sundance recognizes the impact that our image has on the guest’s impression of the resort and the perception of our ability to provide professional service to our clientele. In order to best promote a positive, professional image that meets Sundance guest’s expectations, employees are required to dress in a professional, conservative fashion that is appropriate for their area. Please use the following as a minimum standard:
All aspects of the Personal Appearance policy (SPL#50) must be in compliance.
Operational managers are required to wear nametags at all times while on duty.
Clothing must be unwrinkled and clean, and in good condition (no rips, tears, or frays regardless of whether accidental or fashionably placed).
Blue jeans are permitted.
Men’s shirts must be tucked in.
Appropriate skirt length is from the knee to the ankle.
A tailored fit is required of all clothing.
Tank tops, halter tops tube tops, and spaghetti straps are prohibited.
Sleeveless shirts are permitted for females.
Bare midriffs are prohibited.
Proper footwear for your department is required.
Dress sandals are permitted for females.
Flip flops are prohibited in all areas.
Tennis shoes are prohibited unless there is a business need (ie: Mtn. Ops.)
If your department allows t-shirts, they must be in good condition and have appropriate Sundance logos.
If your department allows baseball caps, they must be in good condition and have appropriate Sundance logos.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university plus one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working with children and parents; supervisory experience; and knowledge of Rocky Mountain ecology preferred. Must possess exceptional organizational skills.
TECHNICAL/COMPUTER SKILLS
Incumbent must possess a working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, internet navigation and electronic mail. Use of a 2-way radio occasionally required.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Incumbent must possess a valid U.S. Drivers’ License in good standing as determined by Sundance’s Insurance Company guidelines. CPR/first aid required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Able to communicate fluently, written and spoken, in English
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, division skills necessary. Knowledge of relevant statistical principles a plus (means, distributions, etc.).
REASONING ABILITY
Must be able to reason well and make sound decisions under stress.

The Kid’s Camp Director is responsible for guiding environmental education programs, many of which occur on the mountain at Sundance Resort. Thus, the incumbent must possess the appropriate hiking, skiing, biking and aerobic abilities necessary to guide such programs. The incumbent must be able to:
• Hike continuously for three hours on terrain typically found in a mountain environment
• Possess basic mountain biking skills.
• Lift 50 pounds.
