Must be available early mornings for control work as needed.
MUST BE AVAILABLE HOLIDAYS & WEEKENDS

SUMMARY
General mountain safety including EMS, avalanche control work, marking boundaries and hazards. Also opening and closing mountain daily and informative public relations for guests.

Candidate
1st season on Sundance Ski Patrol—regardless of previous experience. Starting wage will reflect any previous experience (ski patrol, Sundance mountain experience, guide experience, outdoor schools etc.)
Minimum age = 21.
Utah EMT or higher medical certification.
Intermediate to advanced skier.


Duties:ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. First Aid: Administer first aid and transport injured skiers or persons visiting or working at Sundance Ski area.
2. Transport/Evacuation: Working knowledge of patient packaging and toboggan handling. Knowledge of helicopter protocols and location of landing zones.
3. Participates with Supervisor in Avalanche reduction: Control of avalanche-prone areas throughout the day during hazardous periods.
4. Participates with Supervisor with Explosives: Working knowledge and training of application of explosives in avalanche reduction program.
5. Participates with Supervisor in Avalanche rescue: Be familiar with avalanche rescue procedures as well as the location and inventories of available rescue equipment.
6. Search and rescue: Carry out search and rescue for persons within and out of bounds of the ski area boundaries.
7. Sweep: Learn and carry out end of day and morning sweep operations.
8. Lift evacuation: Be familiar with lift evacuation procedures and location of and use of lift evacuation equipment.
9. Hill safety: Be familiar with area plan for placement and daily maintenance of signs, bamboo, ropes, fences, etc. Also participate in regular sweeps of runs in your assigned complex to identify and remove any problem areas.
10. Accident reporting and investigation: Fill out accident reports completely, correctly, and legibly. Gather supplemental information for accident investigations.
11. Public Relations: Be helpful and courteous to fellow workers and the skiing public. Provide assistance and advice to skiers in a friendly manner. Remain calm and use tact in dealing with emergencies, violations and unusual circumstances.
12. Training: upgrade and refresh skills yearly. Help familiarize new patrollers in learning job duties.
13. Enforce ski area policies: Be familiar with area policies and procedures and update knowledge each year as necessary.
14. Skier safety: Know the skier responsibility code and use it to advise skiers of the established rules of the road. Emphasize that their safety is our concern. Provide a safe skiing environment by actively warning or removing skiers whose conduct is reckless and a danger to themselves or others.
15. Equipment and building maintenance: Be aware of condition of all patrol equipment and keep all patrol facilities clean and in good repair.
16. Be an Example of safe recreation and skiing practices at all times.

DRESS CODE
Sundance recognizes the impact that our image has on the guest’s impression of the resort and the perception of our ability to provide professional service to our clientele. In order to best promote a positive, professional image that meets Sundance guest’s expectations, employees are required to dress in a professional, conservative fashion that is appropriate for their area. Please use the following as a minimum standard:

All aspects of the Personal Appearance policy (SPL#50) must be in compliance.
All members of Ski Patrol are required to wear nametags at all times while on duty.
Clothing must be unwrinkled and clean, and in good condition (no rips, tears, or frays regardless of whether accidental or
fashionably placed).
Men’s shirts must be tucked in.
Proper footwear for your department is required.
T-shirts must be in good condition and have Sundance or Sundance Ski Patrol logos.
Baseball caps must be in good condition and have Sundance or Sundance Ski Patrol logos.

Qualifications:QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Working knowledge or background with rope systems, anchoring/belaying etc is helpful. Avalanche awareness classes or backcountry experience with avalanches preferred.

TECHNICAL/COMPUTER SKILLS

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Utah State EMT, current CPR card. Must possess a valid U.S. Drivers’ License in good standing as determined by Sundance’s Insurance Company guidelines.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however very loud when explosives are detonated.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Must be 21 years of age or older per OSHA for explosives work.
Must be an advanced intermediate alpine skier with a flexible schedule.
